I see a connection between the words of Jesus, Paul and Peter in the following passages that has set me free to give and receive love in the body of Christ as never before.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (1 Timothy 1:6-7)
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,” (1 Peter 1:22-23)
I will no longer hesitate to receive pure fervent love from a dear sister or brother in Christ; rather I will joyously reciprocate with love, power and a sound mind, giving thanks to our God. This is how people will know we are His disciples.
